Job Description

Primary Purpose

The Technician contributes to the delivery of concerts and events; set-up and operation of technical production equipment and systems, in accordance with qualifications and competencies. The role supports the Operations department with the provision of specialist technical services and knowledge. Core responsibilities include rigging and operation of lighting, sound, audio-visual, projection, staging and furniture equipment and maintaining the upkeep and safety of MRC equipment.

The Technician role exists to:

  • work in close co-operation with the Technical Manager, Technical Coordinator, Concert & Event Managers, Stage Managers and to assist technical and Melbourne Recital Centre staff to assist in affecting the delivery of the Centre’s schedule of concerts and events to the highest international standard.
  • rig and operate lighting, sound, audio-visual, projection, staging and furniture equipment as required and in accordance with qualifications/competencies.
  • maintain the upkeep and safety of all Melbourne Recital Centre equipment
  • be committed to providing the highest level of customer service in line with Melbourne Recital Centre customer service vision.
  • foster good working relationships with all Melbourne Recital Centre staff, clients, customers and stakeholders and promote a positive and co-operative working environment
  • provide support to the Technical Manager, Technical Coordinator and other staff in ensuring a safe environment for all staff and visitors.
  • assist the Technical Coordinator with day-to-day supervision of technical production requirements.

Desired Skills and Experience

Main Accountabilities

  • Set-up and operate production equipment according to qualifications/competencies (including audio, lighting, audio-visual, projection, staging, furniture, and instruments) for a variety or concerts and events within the Centre to the highest international standard.
  • Assist with the bump-in and bump-out of event equipment and instruments.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance, repairs and statutory tests on MRC equipment as required.
  • Prepare the backstage and Front of House areas for events.
  • Attend production and operational meetings and complete reports and administrative tasks as required.
  • Support the Technical Manager with the provision of training to colleagues.
  • The Technician will be required to use initiative and judgement to facilitate technical and production activities within the Centre.

Salary

Classification is Melbourne Recital Centre EA 2021 - 2024 Grade 2.1.8 + superannuation guarantee (hourly rate $40.09 incl. 25% casual loading).
