About Melbourne Recital Centre

Melbourne Recital Centre is an award-winning live music venue; where artists and audiences build a lifetime of experiences. We strive to create wonder for everyone, in and beyond the Centre and inspire our community through music.

With a unique focus on music, the Centre presents and hosts hundreds of concerts each year, representing the pinnacle of the art form as practiced by local and international performers traversing all genres of music. And our impactful learning and access activities provide opportunities for Victorians of all ages and backgrounds to experience and engage with music and the Centre in new and exciting ways.

We acknowledge the traditional owners on whose land Melbourne Recital Centre stands – we pay our respects to Melbourne’s First People, to Elders past and present, and to our shared future.

The Peter and Ruth McMullin Beacon (The Beacon)

Melbourne Recital Centre (MRC), known for its commitment to musical excellence and cultural enrichment, has embarked on an exciting endeavour with The Peter and Ruth McMullin Beacon (The Beacon).

The Beacon, MRC’s new performance and events venue is currently in construction marking a significant milestone in our evolution and further cementing our key role within Melbourne’s cultural landscape.

Positioned at the top of an architecturally-striking building – designed by ARM Architecture – the Beacon venue will offer spectacular, uninterrupted views across Melbourne’s skyline. This project emerged from a conviction that the building had always held an extraordinary unrealised space within it and will transform a previously underutilised level into a vibrant, publicly accessible destination.

With funding from the Victorian Government and a matched philanthropic gift from Ruth and Peter McMullin AM – the development reflects a strong partnership between public and private supporters and aligns with the broader transformation of Melbourne’s Arts Precinct.

Where our two existing venues – Elisabeth Murdoch Hall and the Primrose Potter Salon – invite deep listening and contemplative experience, The Beacon is something altogether different – vibrant, electric, intimate offering an immersive experience with Artists and audiences side by side. Sitting above the city, in a space that is as much about joy and connection as it is about music. It's our party space – and it's being made for a city that has always known where to find the best kept secret.

The Beacon fit out is underway and it is expected that this wonderful new space will be ready for performers and corporate hirers from the middle of the year.
